Multilinguism

Human beings are born with more neurons than we actually need. Therefore we are ready to speak in any language. If during the EARLY years of birth we stimulate in different language it will create the neurons connections to develop certain zones of the brain which are important for linguistic learning.

In other case those neurons will not be necessary and will die. The neuronal death is a process totally normal, which cause it seems to be the lack of synaptic conexions the neurons creates. If there is no stimulus, it doesnt set up connections and the cell will end up insolated and finally die.

Children naturally dont want to speak another language that is not the language they will speak with their friends and classmates. But if you want your child to speak the language of the father’s or mother’s family, will depend largely on the commitment of the parents. If one day the child says “no more Spanish”, talk to him calmly about how important it is to know another language, and especially in our case, since it is a language spoken in different parts of the world, and by many millions of people.

Young children must use rhymes, songs and games from their childhood. As your children grow, be more persistent and creative. Some parents send their children to language schools to learn the language in a more formal way. Many families also choose to send their children to spend more time with their relatives in their homeland, whether if it is just for the summer time or longer. Do not forget that it is important to have friends who also speak a heritage language.

Occasionally a child can mix some other word between the two languages, but at first those cases are normal, especially when the two languages have similar words. However, those small mistakes often disappear with time.
